1814 LOWER EGYPT MAP.

De La ROCHETTE, L. S. English edition by W. Faden.

20839 'And the Adjacent Parts of Palestine ; to which has been added the nomenclature of the Roman Age.' William FADEN, London, Jan 1st 1814 (second edition of 1802 edition). Hand-coloured engraved map, 56 x 78 cm, reinforced centrefold. ' Lower Egypt' refers to Northern Egypt, i.e. the region below (north of) the First Nile Cataract, which is shown in detailed topographic relief. Brown and green colouration predominates. The areas around Alexandria and the tidal lakes of Bourlos and Menzaleh are particularly clear. To the east, the Sinai peninsula and southern Palestine is shown in the same style. Recent French-English clashes are recorded, including Aboukir Bay (Battle of the Nile). Both modern (anglecised Arabic) and Ancient (Latin) place-names are given throughout. There are faint offsets of several sections due to prolonged folding, not affecting the printed area to any great degree. VG. $550.00AUD
