FADEN , London, 1799. Large (65 x 86.5 cm) hand coloured engraved map on thick paper, centrefold, bracket reinforced. Highly decorative treatment of lakes and mountains. Colours clearly show the then 13 cantons of Switzerland, along with their allies and subject areas. Highly decorative, with mountains very detailed and elaborate (topographical cross-section style throughout). Large (14x23cm) hand-coloured cartouche / vignette of a mountain scene with local hunters (courtiers) at top left. Smaller vignette of topographical cross-section (labelled) at base. Text panel ('Observationes') describing the religious and linguistic makeup of Switzerland, surrounded by a cartouche of trees, at top right. Mountain height table at lower left. Repaired tear (7cm.) to centrefold at top, a strip of the right verical section and a 40 cm section of the lower right horizontal section have been reinforced, otherwise the map is in good condition. All text in French. A fine Faden map.
