10536 Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, London, 1833. Hand-coloured engraved map, 39 x 32.5 cms., very good condition. R. V. Tooley in his cataloguing of the maps of New South Wales says " An important and influential map that was to have many imitators....the information provided makes this the most up-to-date map of its time ". The map is almost a tribute to Allen Cunningham whose explorations of 1823-9 had opened up the immediate hinterland. Inset plan of Sydney, nicely coloured, useful information of interior, particularly the river systems and land suitable for agriculture, after The Blue Mountains had been eventually crossed, fine & decorative.
